Tarcento has an ancient history (in fact, scholars talk of Palaeolithic populations followed by prehistoric and Celtic settlements, and then, naturally, Roman colonisation), but it was in the 19th century that Tarcento reached its real artistic and cultural peak, becoming a popular holiday resort as demonstrated by the beautiful art nouveau style villas that still enhance the town today.
